Peter Lindbergh/Warner Bros/Entertainment WeeklyLady Gaga's upcoming movie A Star Is Born marks the fourth version of the film -- there were also versions of it in 1937, 1954 and 1976. Most people these days remember the 1976 version, which starred Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, so it's no wonder everyone on the set of the new version freaked out when Streisand dropped by for a visit.
Director, co-writer and star Bradley Cooper tells Entertainment Weekly that Barbra, who played the role of the ingenue in the 1976 movie -- the same role Gaga is playing -- "gave us a blessing."
He adds, "Everybody was so excited she was there. We just looked at each other and were like, ‘Wow. How are we here right now?’”
Gaga adds, “She was so, so kind.”
But Gaga was even more affected by Kris Kristofferson, who also visited the set one day. "I just burst into tears when I saw him," she tells EW.
Kristofferson, a legendary singer/songwriter as well as an actor, played the role of the fading star in the 1976 movie -- the same role Cooper is playing in the new film. Kristofferson also helped Cooper shoot a key scene at the U.K.'s prestigious music festival, Glastonbury, by allowing the actor and his team to jump in and film during his set.
As Cooper notes, "Kris Kristofferson was kind enough to give us four minutes of his set. I sang, played the guitar solo, and then I said, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, Kris Kristofferson.’”
A Star Is Born hits theaters October 5.
